Vintage :
The exceptional heat and drought conditions that overwhelmed France during 2003 produced highly concentrated Pinot Noirs with intense fruit and unusual richness. The grapes were harvested unusually early due to the extreme ripening conditions. The wines of Pommard are generally known for their firm and aggressive tannins. With this vintage we have still maintained some of these characteristics, but the maturity of the tannins has added richness and suppleness the normally aggressive style.

Winemaking: :
At harvest the grapes were sorted, destemmed and crushed. We added about 15% of whole clusters into the fermenter. This wine was cold soaked for five days and then fermented on the skins for fifteen days before pressing. The wine was then barrel aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak prior to a non filtered bottling.

Tasting notes:
Due to the intensity of the heat in Burgundy in 2003, this wine has a richness normally associated with “New World” Pinots. With a very forward oak and currant nose the wine is still young and it will need quite a bit of time. The palate structure is intense and aggressive, but highlighted by the fruit that is packed with black cherry and cassis. The tannins are heavy, but mature and will carry this wine for many years to come.
